Cold, Still, Shatter

     It was cold. The kind of cold that can only exist late at night, when the world is silent and even places that are thrumming with life in the sun become still. It isn’t a cold that sweeps across your arms and face and numbs your skin; it’s the cold of the still, the cold that is a product of the calm silence that covers the world as it sleeps. I was lucky.
